Waterside Primary School prides itself in enabling our children to have their voice heard and to offer children of all ages the opportunity to lead and be active members of our school community.
We offer the children a variety of opportunities to be leaders. We continue to champion our children with these roles and support their understanding of how important it is to give them opportunities to be active young citizens and play a positive role in all aspects of school life.
The Pupil Parliament is led by the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, who play key roles in representing the student voice and driving positive change within the school community. Elected by their peers, they act as role models and leaders, working closely with staff and students to discuss important issues, propose new ideas, and help implement initiatives that benefit everyone. Whether it's organising events, promoting inclusion, or improving school facilities, the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister ensure that the opinions of all pupils are heard and valued. Their leadership helps create a more collaborative and empowering school environment.

The Pupil Voice Department plays a vital role in ensuring that students have a meaningful say in how the school is run and how their education is shaped. It encourages active participation from all year groups, giving students the opportunity to express their ideas, concerns, and suggestions in a structured and respectful environment. Through regular meetings, surveys, and collaborative projects, the department helps to strengthen the connection between students and staff, promoting a more inclusive and responsive school community. By empowering students to take part in decision-making, the Pupil Voice Department fosters leadership, confidence, and a sense of responsibility among the student body.
The Environment Department is dedicated to promoting sustainability and raising awareness about environmental issues within the school community. Composed of passionate and proactive students, the team leads initiatives such as recycling programs, litter-picking campaigns, energy-saving efforts, and eco-friendly projects around the school grounds and our local area. They work closely with staff to implement green practices and often run events or assemblies to educate others on the importance of protecting our planet. The Environment Team not only helps make the school a cleaner, greener place but also inspires others to take responsibility for their impact on the environment, both at school and beyond.
The Health and Well-being department is committed to supporting the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of all students through our 'Red to Blue' program. It provides a safe and welcoming space where students can seek advice, talk about their concerns, and access resources related to health, stress management, relationships, and overall self-care. The department organises awareness days, and activities that promote healthy lifestyles and positive mental health. Working closely with teachers and support staff, the team ensures that every student feels heard, supported, and empowered to take care of themselves and others. Through its efforts, the department plays a key role in creating a caring and supportive school environment.
The Curriculum and Learning Department is focused on ensuring that every student has access to a rich, engaging, and well-rounded education. This year, a key priority has been promoting reading across all year groups to help develop literacy skills, foster a love of books, and enhance overall academic achievement. The department has launched several exciting initiatives, including reading challenges, book clubs and dedicated reading time during the school day. Teachers are also incorporating more reading into lessons across subjects, highlighting its importance in all areas of learning. By placing a strong emphasis on reading, the department aims to inspire students to become confident, curious, and lifelong learners.
The Enrichment Department plays a vital role in fostering student development beyond the classroom, with a strong emphasis on charity work and community engagement. Through various initiatives, students are encouraged to support local and global causes, developing empathy, leadership, and a sense of social responsibility. From organising food drives and fundraising events to volunteering and supporting environmental campaigns, the department ensures that charity work is a central pillar of student life. These activities not only benefit those in need but also help students grow into compassionate, active citizens who understand the power of giving back.
