After learning all about our local community and what is in the community we moved on to learning about the people who help us in the community. The children have loved talking about the different job roles they already knew from their experiences and learning about new ones. We looked at the broken images and matched the people together. We enjoyed talking about who they are, what they use and why they are important to us.
We used the story to help us understand the job role of some community members. We then cut out different vehicles and stuck them to the correct person.
In writing this week we have been focusing on using phase 2 and 3 sounds within our writing. The children are becoming more familiar with captions and have started to include their own finger spaces. We have been trying our best to be more independent and confident in our writing to have ago and spell words ourselves.
In phonics we have learnt our final sounds from phase 3. We will continue to practise these in school and at home to be secure and confident recognising the sounds on their own and within our reading.
This week in maths we have been learning about capacity. The children have confidently identified full, empty and half full. They had so much fun experimenting with the water and discussing the capacity of the beakers. We extending our learning to find nearly full and nearly empty.
This term we have been learning about Clarice Cliff and what she did. She is important to us as she is our local artist. We looked at some more of her designs and looked at the different shapes she used. We then had our own vase and design our own pattern on the vase. We used different shapes to trace around and some children chose to draw their shapes free hand.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I will see you Monday morning
