Imperial War Museum
Year 6 visited the Imperial War Museum after studying ‘War Horse’ in our English lessons. We further extended our knowledge of how animals were helpful in the war effort through an interactive tour of the museum.
Year 6 citizenship
Year 6 completed their first citizenship task by helping out in another year group. We helped year one to plant flowers, showing friendship, respect and determination in doing so.
Light investigation
Year 6 investigated what happens to their pupil when their eye is exposed to light.
Red2Blue
Year 6 completed some art using Zentangle patterns to show the complexities within the human mind as we work towards building resilience when moving from our Red to our Blue head during trickier times.
Garage Band enrichment
Our Garage Band superstars produced some fantastic music including in a dance style, acoustic and even music from other cultures.
Performing poetry
Year 6 have been performing their war poetry to the class, showing the Waterside value of courage when reading aloud.
Orienteering experts
Year 6 used instructions with directional vocabulary to move their sightless teammates to a chosen location.
Earth and Space
In our Science lesson this week, we have been modelling the movement of the Earth, Sun and Moon. We then made a model and wrote a short explanation in our books.
Oceans and Climate Change!
Today we learned all about how the oceans regulate our climate. The ocean is like a big thermostat! Due to global warming, sea levels rise so we learned the order that this happens:
1. People burn fossil fuels.
2. The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere rises.

Resounding Reading!
We were so impressed by the children’s independent reading answers this week! They have worked so hard on using their own opinions in their answers but also being able to use the text to support their opinions too. Well done Year 5!
Debating in Year 6
Year 6 have taken part in a debate to consider whether animals should be used in the war.
Musical maestros
Year 6 used music technology to practice composing four bar melodies. We experimented with pitch by using a piano keyboard, seeing how the notes move on the musical stave.
