To all parents and carers,
What a fantastic week we had at Waterside. We celebrated our Harvest Show with two performances from Year 1 to Year 6. The pupils were spectacular and learnt poems and songs in their Music and Drama lessons. The performances were exceptional and just show how confident and focused they are as learners. We had over 120 parents attend the shows – which is spectacular. The food donations are going to the local food bank to support those in need at times of hardship. I was most proud of the harvest show being written and performed from start to finish by the pupils. It just shows what leadership they have developed already.
Last week as part of our democracy focus in PSHCE we received a visit from our local MP Gareth Snell. Gareth spoke to the children about how to become a politician, aspirations and what he enjoyed most about his current role. It was most informative. The Y6 pupils then had a focused question and answer session. They asked some challenging but inspiring questions, which shows how they are able to ask philosophical questions from their Philosophy lessons to create deep learning and linked ideas.
This week we are welcoming visitors to Waterside to see the best practice and will be supporting two schools in their settings on Early Years, English and Maths. The funds generated through external work is being put towards more virtual reality technology to support.
I am delighted to share that attendance is rapidly improving at Waterside from the start of term. The number of lates are also reducing. This is important as lessons start prompt and the first lesson learning is essential in developing the basic skills of learning that underpin pupils reading, writing and maths. A reminder Tuesday to Friday pupils can come for early readers from 8.30am.
A reminder that it is school photographs on Tuesday 15th October. We will offer Early sessions for families from 8am.
