Welcome back and New Year! What a busy week we have had getting to know each other.
This week in English we have read our new text, the classic story of Oliver Twist. We have used this week to get to know the story and the characters. On Friday we spent our time exploring the Victorian Era, the children were engrossed looking at the differences between then and now.
In Maths this week we have started to look at Fractions, all children have show our school value determination in particular in Maths this week. Firstly we looked at what a fraction is, the key vocabulary that we use, the whole and parts and finally and how to count in tenths.
In Humanities we have started our new topics, in History we have started to look at Ancient Egypt. We have heard a story about Howard Carter to famously found the tomb of Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings. In Geography we have explored the question 'Wha is a settlement'? this included a Village, farmstead, town and city. The children loved learning about the difference between the settlements.
