Writing

This week in writing we moved on to our new genre of narrative writing. We discussed features which make narrative writing engaging, before discussing the features of ‘building suspense and tension’ in more detail, we discussed how ‘show not tell’ can make our writing more engaging and actually help build suspense and tension in writing. Furthermore we discussed how short, sharp sentence and relative clauses and not giving the reader all the information straight away also helps to build suspense in our writing. We also discussed how the punctuation ellipses (…) helps to build suspense when used effectively, aswell we description using the five senses. Children then went on to write a short narrative using the range of techniques they had learned to build tension and suspense in their writing.
